Every morning students circle the parking lot in search of a spot to park, but for many students at Black River Falls High School, doing so has recently become a great struggle.
Junior Cassondra Eagen is no stranger to this dilemma. “I’ve had struggles finding a parking spot a lot of the times when I come back from lunch.”
All of the parking spots in the student parking lot are being filled up every day causing many students like Eagen to not have a spot when they make it to school.
The main part of the problem for finding spots has come down to the large number of students that are driving to school.
“Currently we have 96 parking spots in our high school parking lot and we have about 126 students that are actually driving right now, which is a significant amount increase than we’ve had in the past,” said high school secretary Michelle Wood.
With more students needing parking spots than the student parking lot has to offer, people have been parking outside of the student parking lot and even in the emergency parking lines.
“I’ve had to park by the front by the office before and I’ve also had to park in the middle school parking lot before,” said Eagen.
These parking choices have drawn the attention of the school administration. In order to combat the overflow of students needing a parking space a temporary expansion has been set in place to provide parking spots for students who don’t leave school until the end of the day.
“Something we did do was we opened 26 parking spots over at the middle school for our sophomore parking,” said Wood.
