Tennis Season Comes To A Close

The girls tennis team works to improve their record as they move into the end of their season.

Thursday, September 16, the Lady Tigers traveled to West Salem to take on the Panthers in their final conference match. The Tigers won and improved their record to 2-5.

The following Saturday, September 18,  the tennis team hosted the five-team conference meet at the BRFHS courts. Joining in the competition were the tennis teams from Mondovi, Onalaska Luther, Viroqua and West Salem.

Players were seeded based on previous play and given a seed 1-5. Seed 1 was given a bye, while seeds 4 and 5 played to see who would meet Seed 1 in the semi-finals. Seeds 2 and 3 played to decide who would play the winner of that game (Seed 4-5 vs. 1). Once a player lost, she was done with play.

No. 1 Singles player Abbey Johnson and the No. 1 Doubles team of Melinda Laudon and Savannah Markee reached the final game of the tournament. Despite losing in the final matchup, both earned 2nd Team All-Conference.

Also taking away honors were No. 2 Singles player Kate Hegna and No. 2 Doubles team, Sandy Lin and Lindsey Fox, with Honorable Mention.

The tennis team is in action September 28 and 30, traveling to Eau Claire Regis and La Crosse Aquinas. After those non-conference match-ups, the varsity team will enter post-season play on October 4 in La Crosse.
