The Black River Falls Marching Tigers held their Fall Review Concert on November 5 at 7:00 PM.
This fall the band played the parade song “Seven Nation Army” by The White Stripes. This led to the Marching Tigers having a second place finish in the Cranfest Parade.
The Marching Tigers has a busy season with all the home football games. Their music for the pregame made up the first section of their playlist at the fall review concert.
“This year’s Fall Review Concert was a good performance, but due to the amount of home football games we were slightly under-prepared for our Fall Review concert,” said junior Chaz Churchill
The band teacher assistants and the student directors each picked a song for the band to learn. This year there were five students that chose songs for the band to learn. The student directors this year were Camille Gunning, Rikka Bakken, and Justice Thompson. The students directors are chosen by an audition. The teacher assistants are Cory Weldon and Aspen Bue.
“The songs that the student directors chose and the teachers assistants chose went well for the band because the band was glad to have some say in it instead of the music just being chosen by Ms. Hardie,” said senior Camille Gunning
Most students were preparing for this concert beforehand.
“My first fall review concert went really good, as far as music, because I made it to my lessons with Ms. Hardie,” said freshmen Ryan Guenther.
“I took home my music to study before the concert. Anything I had trouble with I received help from Ms. Hardie in a lesson,” said Churchill.
As a seniors there are many feelings when they come to the last concert.
“Heck, yeah, I won’t hang out with the whole band again, I won’t be putting on a band uniform again, I won’t be putting on my student director outfit, I won’t be sitting down playing the Fall Review Concert in front of all the parents in the gym, I’m gonna miss all the fun times with the band kids,” said Gunning.
Through the years the Fall Review Concert has changed ever so slightly.
“I expect to have an awesome entrance routine that we will hopefully learn before the day of the concert,” said Churchill
“I’d like to see them pull out some of the older pep band songs that haven’t been played for a while to add some variety to the concert because the only part that seems to change is the part that is chosen by the teachers assistants and student directors,” said Gunning.
“I would like to see the band do a Jurassic Park set for next year because I think it would be the bomb,” said Guenther.
As a student director the fall review concert presents different challenges.
“As a student director I saw how to direct the band and what makes directing the band a challenge, we also had problems coming up with awards to give to the other students in our band to recognize the members that went above and beyond,” said Gunning.
Each student has their own favorite part of the concert.
“ I really liked the Color Guard wanna be,” said Guenther.
“I really enjoyed the teachers assistant section,” said Gunning.
