20 Things Students Need To Know For 2020

20+Things+Students+Need+To+Know+For+2020

I often hear that people never know what’s going on. So, I thought I would help everyone out by putting together a list of dates that everyone should know before the end of the school year.

  1. The first day back to school is Thursday, January 2, 2020.

We go back a day earlier than usual this year but it will be a two day week, make sure to start the year off on the right foot. It’s better to have two days here than two more days in June, right?

  1. End of Semester

January 23 is the end of first semester. Hopefully knowing this date will encourage you to study for your finals, ensuring that you won’t have to make up any credits.

  1. No school days:

From now until the end of the year we have at least one day off a month, make the most of that time! There is no school Friday, January 24, Friday, February 21, Thursday, March 12, Friday, March 13, Friday, April 10, and Monday, May 25.

The first scheduled parent teacher conference of the year will be held on Tuesday, January 28. The conferences start at 3:30 pm and the junior parent night will be held in the commons at 5:30 pm that night. This is important because juniors will be able to learn more about their senior schedule.

  1. ACT Bootcamp

As they prepare for the ACT, the juniors will be required to attend this session of test training on Thursday, February 6. Bootcamp will be held in the West Gym from 8:00-11:00 am. Take this time seriously because your ACT score can impact the colleges you’re accepted into.

  1. FCCLA Blood drives

Every year, FCCLA hosts a number of blood drives. They are located at the Lunda Community Center Field House from 7:30 am – 3:00 pm on Friday, February 14 and Thursday, April 30. If you are 16 years old or older you can sign up for a time, if not you can donate with parent permission.

The music boosters host a performance in the Commons on Tuesday, February 18, starting at 4:30 pm. Performances will be put on by the middle and high school choirs, the pep band, and individuals performing  in the upcoming musical.

  1. ACT Test

If they are lucky, the juniors will be taking the ACT test on Tuesday, March 3 from 8:00-12:00 pm, if the weather isn’t so promising there is an emergency make-up day scheduled for Tuesday, March 17, from 8:00-12:00 pm.

  1. Musical

  1. ASVAB test

The ASVAB career exploration test, which is also used for entrance into the military, will take place in the LMC on Thursday, March 26, from 8:00-11:00 am. Even if you have no plans to go into the military, it is an opportunity to learn more about your interests and explore career options.

  1. ASPIRE testing

9th and 10th grade students will have ASPIRE testing during their science, social studies, English, and math classes during the week of April 6-9. It may not be the most fun thing to do, but these tests give students a good idea of what areas they should study before the real ACT.
