November at Black River Falls can be a downtime to some with fall sports coming to a close and others starting up, but this November, some students are showing off a somewhat rare talent at a young age; the ability to grow facial hair or at least try to grow it. The new event students are partaking in is No Shave November.

 “I’ve shaved on the 31 and got a fresh start on the 1st and I do not plan to stop,” said senior beard-grower Erick Conrad

 Conrad, like many others, is growing a solid looking beard. They are encouraged to keep their facial hair until the end of November. For some, they plan on keeping their mustache or beard for even longer than November.

 “It takes some sick skill to grow massive sideburns. Unfortunately, I can’t grow a mustache. I’m not shaving until the first of January. [Eric Helstad and I] said that we are not going to,” said another participant junior Dylan Hill.

 Dylan Hill, if you have seen him walking around, has nice looking sideburns. The mustache for most is a hard trade to learn, as Dylan says. Dan Anderson was blessed with a great mustache and has not only had it for November, but a long while. Not all guys are capable to grow a mustache like Anderson; the mustache is clearly a hard trade to learn.

 Even some girls in the Black River Falls high school are choosing to participate in this event. Some girls are choosing to grow out the hair on their leg, which can be gross to some, but to others, it’s just less to think about.

 “No Shave November is truly a dedication that you have to make. I don’t know, it’s just there; it’s one more thing you don’t have to worry about in the morning,” said junior Sydney Harkner, who is choosing to grow her leg hair out for the month of November.

 No Shave November can be a competition to see who can grow the best beard or mustache, but to others it’s just a fun event that students are encouraged to partake in.

 “In some ways it is and others it’s not [a competition]. It’s more of a fun event going to see who gets the hairiest,” said junior Drew Millis.

 “I’m just doing it, something goofy to do. It gives me a reason not to shave,” said Conrad.

 Some throughout the school are trying to participate but go unnoticed due to the lack of facial hair.

 No Shave November was spread throughout Facebook, and brought into our school by Eric Helstad, who is also partaking in this event.

 “I am fully dedicated and won’t shave until the end, unless there’s a freak accident, like a facial surgery. Eric is one goofy son-of-a-gun, so he can communicate with the student body well to get it started,” said Millis.

 For Millis, a facial surgery would truly ruin his beard he has growing, and would eliminate him for No Shave November. For those partaking in No Shave November, a facial surgery would surely be unfortunate in their facial hair growing.
