Reading gives people an opportunity like none other. The opportunity to escape into a whole new world. To leave their problems behind and just lose themselves in a good book.

“I like to read because when I read, I absolutely lose myself in what I’m reading. I forget about my problems and just put myself in the place of the main character. It’s probably the best feeling in the world,” said sophomore Katelyn Breheim.

Reading teaches a lot. By reading, the readers can learn new vocabulary, or learn something they have never been taught before.

“I love to learn new things, so I like non-fiction because it teaches me a lot of new stuff,” said Literature teacher Bradley Lobenstein.

People read for all sorts of reasons. Maybe because reading is a good way to relax, or maybe it’s just because they love to read.

“I love to read because I like love stories and it is a break from boring textbooks,” said junior Paige Fisher.

With school ending soon and summer approaching fast, it would be a good idea to continue reading and continue learning.

“I do plan on reading over the summer. I have a book called Homeland which is young adult fiction about computer hackers and government surveillance.  I am also excited to read The Card: Collectors, Con Men, and the True Story of History’s Most Desired Baseball Card.  It is a true story about a baseball card that is worth over 2 million dollars. Also, at the suggestion of some students I will be starting the  Beautiful Creatures series,” said Lobenstein.

Finding a good book is important to fall in love with reading.

“My favorite book is Walk Two Moons By Sharon Creech. The book is about a girl who is on a road trip with her grandparents to “see” her mother. You learn her whole life story through the book, and all the things she has been through,” said Brehem.

“My favorite books right now would be the Harry Potter Series…I just can not get enough of the characters and the world that Rowling created,” said Lobenstein.

“I love any Sarah Dessen book because I’m a hopeless romantic. I like The Truth About Forever by her [Sarah Dessen]. It’s about a girl who falls in love with a guy that she works with at her new job,” said Fisher.

There are many genres out there to choose from. It all depends on what intrigues to the reader.

“I like to read all sorts of things from young adult literature, to mysteries, to biographies. Recently I have been reading a lot about fishing…go figure,” said Lobenstein.

Maybe a more sappy, love story sounds good.

“My favorite genre is love and romance. Preferably Nicholas Sparks or Sarah Dessen,” said Fisher.

Reading may sound like a chore to some people, but to people who love to read, it’s like being in a dream, living a whole different life.

“Reading for me is a lot like watching tv for other people.  I love how it can take me to a different place and give me something completely new to think about,” said Lobenstein.
