The girls hockey team this year is non-conference, meaning that there aren’t a certain number of teams that they play every year. The teams are subject to change. The team has been school-affiliated for three years.

The team is a combination of players both from Tomah and BRF. Seniors on the team include captains; Riley Smith, Natasha Hizer and Anissa Flick.

“This is the year we are supposed to go to state” said Natasha Hizer.“We have girls that have been playing since they were like three or four years old . I know we can if we really try.”

“Our team this year is a great team. We have a lot of leadership from the seniors,” said sophomore Riley Emerson.

“I feel like we have a lot of new girls this year,” said sophomore Hanna Hodge, “but everyday in practice we are really improving and I know we can have a winning team with the more we practice.”

This year is the first year for many girls on the team.

For sophomore Annmarie DeRosa, this is her first year ever on a high school hockey team. “I was so nervous on my first day!” said DeRosa. “This is my first year in this school and then I try out for a hockey team? I didn’t know what to expect. I could skate and all, but I didn’t have anything on the girls that have been doing this forever.”

So far the girls have won two out of their 5 games.

“We are doing pretty good for being a fairly new team,” said Karly Tennant. “This is my second year on the high school team and it is even more fun then it was last year.”
