One of the biggest events in the music department is madrigal. Madrigal is a dinner theater produced by the band and choir students each year. A lot of hard work goes into one night of singing and dancing.

Take it from Mary Onstad, a sophomore who is participating in Madrigal as a town crier. Behind the scenes, she gets to set up lights.

“It’s a lot of work, yes, but it’s something amazing, too,” said Onstad.

A lot of choral students rave about Madrigal when the time comes. Madrigal isn’t just a show for students, it’s open to the public, which is how Onstad became interested.

“I’ve always wanted to be in Madrigal since my grandma took me. She took me every year and I’ve always thought that everyone in it was cool, but I never thought that I would be able to get into this elite group. Then, when I came into highschool I found out that I only had to be in choir.”

With all of this fun and excitement comes effort and hard work. Last year, set up for madrigal went from 3:15 after school to 3:15 the next morning.

“Oh yeah, it’s going to be a late one,” said Pacetti, choral director. Pacetti is in charge of a majority of madrigal setup and production.

“I can’t decide whether it’s the spirit or tradition. You have this sense of joy, happiness, like that feeling when you see a puppy. It gives you a I-can-do-anything feeling and it embodies the spirit of Christmas,” said Onstad.

Madrigal dinner is on December 15 with the doors opening at 4 p.m.
