Five Artists You SHOULD Be Listening To

Get your iPods ready, because here is a list of five artists that you should be listening to.

 · Eminem. He’s back with his new album, Recovery, and also back with new songs that are sure to keep you listening. He’s changing the theme of his songs to more positive topics these days, and it was an excellent career move on his part.

“Well, he’s the most lyrically dominant rapper in the game today,”said senior Eric Helstad.

There are his latest hits “Not Afraid” and “Love the Way You Lie,” which featured Rihanna, but it is worth your time to listen to his not as famous ones as well. “Cinderella Man” and “Talkin 2 Myself” are just a few of his good ones.

 ·   Hey Monday. Chances are, you haven’t heard of them, but they don’t disappoint. The lead singer, Cassadee Pope, is a great addition to the already talented band. They offer upbeat songs that don’t have cheesy lyrics.

“I first saw them in concert when they opened for [the band] All Time Low, and I really liked her voice and their musical style and their lyrics,” said junior Katie Dvorak, one of their biggest fans.

Some of their highlights are the songs “I Don’t Wanna Dance,” “Run, Don’t Walk,” “Homecoming,” and “Arizona.” You may not know them now, but they’ll be famous someday because they have a lot of potential.

 · Kid Cudi. You’ve probably heard his song “Day N’ Night” on Z93, but his best songs are ones that you don’t hear on the radio. He raps on broader and deeper topics than many rappers do. His lyrics are real, and never once talks about fancy cars or how he’s the best ever. You can’t help but relate to what he saying because he’s telling a story rather than singing a song. He covers every emotion. If you have a bad day, go to his song “Up, Up, and Away.” If you feel determined to reach a goal, go to “Pursuit of Happiness.” Or if you just want to hear good music in general, then listen to “Simple As,” “Soundtrack 2 My Life,” and “Man on the Moon.” His newest album, “Man on the Moon 2: The Legend of Mr. Rager,” comes out on November 2.

 · Miranda Lambert. When she started her career as a country music singer, she sang sweet and innocent songs, ones that defined the words cheesy. Nowadays, she turns out hardcore songs from a girl’s perspective. She doesn’t hold back about anything, which leads to songs that you can jam out in the car to. Her latest song “Only Prettier” is one that would sound really cocky if anyone else sang it, but for some reason it’s okay when she sings it; in fact it’s better than okay, it’s awesome. With lyrics like “I got a mouth like a sailor and yours is more like a Hallmark card,”you feel compelled to listen to her. A few more of her notable songs are “White Liar,” “The House that Built Me,” and “Gunpowder and Lead.” If you want to feel tough as nails, turn on Miranda Lambert music.

 ·  Michael Bublé. He’s targeted more towards a female audience, but guys could still appreciate him too. He has an amazing voice and performs every song flawlessly. He’s retro with his Frank Sinatra feel, a type of music you don’t hear anymore. His musical abilities are amazing, and he’s a rare find since he really can sing and doesn’t need to lip sync in concert. Even other singers admire him. Country singer Blake Shelton covered his song “Home,” but you just can’t beat him. “Just Haven’t Met You Yet” is a hit, but it’s worth your time to check out his other ones as well. “Feeling Good,” “Save the Last Dance for Me,” “Everything,” and “The Best is Yet to Come” are just a few.
