With Halloween right around the corner, haunting winds paired with a bitterly cold rain during Tuesday night’s level 1 playoff game made a tough game even tougher for the Tigers.

The Tigers lost the game 20-49 to Rice Lake. They finished the season with a 7-3 record.

“The gusty winds didn’t set a good playing environment for the night,” said sophomore Nathan Helstad.

Even though there was nasty weather, both teams had to play in the conditions, so there was no unfair advantage for either team.

“We had a great season and I’m said to have it end, but I will have two more years of football,” said Helstad.

Some people felt that the weather influenced the outcome of the game.

“It was very cold. I feel like if it wasn’t windy we could have thrown the ball and it would have been a lot closer game,” said senior Matthew Roskos.

On the other hand, some people feel like the weather didn’t play a factor in how the game turned out.

“This was a beautiful day for football, I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way,” said Helstad.

Not only did the passing game not work but, “our punts went nowhere, so that always gave our defense bad field position,” said Helstad.

Along with the bad weather, there was a very poor turnout for the game.

“With the weather, a lot of people didn’t show up to the game. I think a lot of underclassmen had doubts when we stepped out on the field,” said Helstad.

This game ended the season for the Black River Falls Tigers.

“It really sucks for a lot of guys because that’s the last time they will ever play, but that’s not the case for me–I have a lot of football left to play,” said Helstad.

The team this year had a lot of seniors, and this was the game that they had to go out on. This is not the end of sports for them, though. Some will go on and play basketball, hockey, wrestling, baseball, track or golf.

“This season was really fun and I had a lot of fun with the team. I will miss all the seniors and thank them for making it a fun season,” said Helstad.
