New assistant principal and former social studies teacher Jason Janke isn’t only learning a new job, but also coaching an undefeated football team.
Janke enjoys coaching the football team, which captured the conference championship and an 8-0 record.
“I love coaching football and watching football,” said Janke.
As an administrator, Janke has more responsibility in the school and community while dealing with another job–coaching–that would usually interfere.
“They really don’t interfere with each other. They just take more time,” Janke said. Being busier just allows Janke to work harder and reach more of his goals.
Janke is using the leadership skills from coaching and is now applying it to his vice principal. “I have learned to have patience from both my teaching job and coaching job that I now apply to my new job,” Janke said.
When a teacher has two important jobs in the district they must have to balance their time and responsibilities. “It’s not hard to balance the jobs, but it’s not easy, if it was easy it wouldn’t be fun,” said Janke.
Janke remains calm despite all the responsibilities he now holds in school. “No, [my responsibilities] do not become stressful because of my supportive family members and team members.”
Janke has been striving for goals as he balances his new job as assistant principal and his already-establishing position as assistant football coach.
“I strive for getting my team to win the state championship and have champion students. My biggest goal is to have a fun place where everyone wants to be,” said Janke.
The senior class has directly benefited from Janke’s leadership style–he worked with the class as a large group to modify hall pass policy and open lunch.
“Since Janke has been here, the school has been a lot more fun learning environment,” said senior Johnny Moe.
Moe enjoys the collaboration with his class and Janke. “The new assistant principal communicates the changes with [the] class well,” said Moe.
Janke has been helping the teachers collaborate more and keeping them informed about what is going on. Psychology teacher Mr. Boerger has been very pleased with the communication.
“He does a nice job with contacting me on my prep period. He has been very collaborative with not just me but all the teachers this year,” said Boerger.
Boerger is grateful with the effort Janke has put into this school.
“Not only does his job takes up a lot of time, it takes a lot of patience with students. He does a good job balancing discipline issues with positive issues,” said Boerger.
