New Super Mario Bros. Wii Review

Mario and Luigi are back in a brand new adventure now with two Toads at their side.

Like every other Mario game, it starts off with Princess Peach being kidnapped. This time instead of just the evil Bowser being the kidnapper, he is joined by Bowser Jr. and his other children, referred to as Koopalings. When Mario and company set off on their mission to rescue Princess Peach, the Toads launch new power-ups, the propeller and penguin suit, off into the worlds to aid the crew.

After making it through all eight worlds and defeating the Koopalings, Bowser Jr., and Kamek the Magikoopa, they enter the menacing lair of Bowser himself. After defeating Bowser, they discovered that Kamek was disguised as Peach by wearing a pink dress and a blonde wig. Kamek cast a spell on the lava where Bowser fell and the Koopa King emerged hundreds of times larger than his original self. He chases Mario and company through the castle destroying all in his way. When they finally find Peach in a cage, they quickly press a button sending Bowser through the floor to a fiery death.

This game is the first Mario to use 2.5D. 2.5D is when the background is 2D and the action is 3D. I would have to give the graphics a 9 out of 10 rating.

The characters have amzing quality to them, but the background is somewhat boring. It is the same as other Mario games and I feel they could have been a little more creative with them this time around.

The plot deserves a 8 out of 10 rating. It has a classic Mario plot to it.  It twists the plot with the Koopalings and Boswer Jr. as added antagonists.
I give the music a perfect score. The composer adds classic Mario themes to modern styles. It has a nice flavor to it and gets stuck in your head very easily (but in the good way).

There are two modes of controls: one with the nunchuck or with the Wii Remote in the horizontal position.  The game gives you the ability to make yourself a bubble in multiplayer. It is a very good strategy to “bubble yourself” if you have difficulty progessing through a part when another person can. The other player then pops your bubble to set you free. If you die while playing in multiplayer, you respawn as a bubble.

This is the first game in the Mario series that gives the players the ablilty to play up to four players.

I would highly recommend this game to gamers new to or familiar with the Mario series. It is great game to play with a group of friends and is easy to pick up and play at any point in the game.  Like many video games, the difficulty increases with each level the player advances. But the difficulty doesn’t distract from the entertainment apect of the game.

I give the game an overall reating of 9 out of 10. I really enjoy this game and hope you enjoy it as much I do.
